Mystery Depots

in Massachusetts and New Hampshire

I have stumbled across some mysteries pertaining to old railroad depots in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. (Well OK, perhaps "stumbled" is the wrong word, as I actively seek out this sort of thing.)

Over the years I had made web pages of some of these mysteries, mostly so I could share them with my pal Gary Lapointe who has the wonderful site Railroad Depots in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  It seemed like I should make an index page linking to all of the mystery pages from one place on the Web. So here it is for anyone else who might be interested- or might have info to share with us pertaining to these mystery buildings. (Click on an image below to go to the corresponding page.)

Old Furnace Depot, (Hardwick) Mass.  Gone, extant, or both?

The Phantom Depot at Pinehurst Park

Was this once the B&M Depot at West Townsend, Mass.? Is it still there?

The alleged railroad station at Whately, Massachusetts. Does a former Boston & Maine depot still stand here?

Jaffrey, New Hampshire railroad depot hoax? Is the structure said to be the railroad depot at Jaffrey, NH really what it purports to be? Or is this an example of "Yankee humor"? Did someone just slap an order board on this edifice and jokingly declare it "The Depot"- or is it real? Click here to find out more....

The Brandeis-Roberts Flagstop Mystery. (What IS this?)

The amazing Marlboro, New Hampshire Depot.  Every once in a while- these things have a happy ending.

Greendale, Massachusetts. (Worcester.) What was this- passenger depot, freight, or both?

OK, I give up. I hate to admit it, but I can't identify a depot on my favorite railroad line.  "The Central Mass Mystery Station". A real head-scratcher.

For years I thought this strange building was once the North Sudbury, Mass. Depot. But now I'm not too sure. This is an intriguing mystery that just won't go away.

Today's mail included an interesting "can you identify this" from Musehobo. Can you identify either of these mystery depots?

Here is a weird one. The "Twice Vanished Depot". No doubt it's a depot. I took the picture somewhere in Massachusetts- but we don't know where I was when I took it. Or where this is NOW. Now that's a mystery.

Page Two features more mysteries from the archive.  Here you'll find questions previously on this page, which have now been more or less figured out. Interesting stuff.

You'll also find dozens of mysteries involving railroad depots in Massachusetts on this page from Gary. In addition, he has a page for New Hampshire depot mysteries. Both are terrific. Well worth a visit.

And of course....

this page will be added to. (I can't help it.)
